Setup, options and practical limits.

Available builds

The published download currently links to 1.0.0-alpha25, which matches the current source. Read each release's notes before choosing a build. Yomu is a personal alpha, not a Play Store release.

Add reading material

Share an article URL, PDF or Word document to Yomu. Saved items belong in To read. Use Up next for your listening queue, optional playlists for grouping, and Read history for completed material.

Listen and follow

Start playback to stream speech with sentence highlighting. Tap a sentence to seek, change playback speed, use the sleep timer and control background audio. Reading and listening behavior depends on the selected build and configured provider.

Choose voices

Open Voice Settings, configure the desired provider with your own credentials, and choose its voice. Azure Speech, ElevenLabs, and Fish Audio are supported, alongside the offline Kokoro voice. Star voices in any provider to keep your preferred ones together, and preview a voice before selecting it; samples are cached, so replaying one costs nothing. Local voice support is separate from online provider access. Provider availability, cost and limits belong to the provider; unavailable metrics do not imply zero usage.

Export and back up

MP3 generation is an explicit export action, separate from normal streaming playback. Keep a manual backup before changing devices or installing a differently signed build. Review the repository's build notes for native library and licensing details.

Newsletter and web work

Newsletter inbox, cross-device resume and web reader work is documented in the repository. The reading view can archive, rename, queue, playlist, and delete an article without leaving the article. Consult the versioned release notes to know what is in a download.

Troubleshooting and limits

If playback fails, check connectivity and provider configuration, then retry. Report the build version, operation and visible error. Android Auto requires further head-unit validation. Build success does not establish device-level playback reliability.

Developer guide

Source, build commands, architecture, product scope, roadmap and licence bill of materials are linked from the repository README. Public distribution readiness and signing remain separate from a successful debug build.
